It has been a tremendous pleasure and privilege to have collaborated with Professor Sean Lin on this project. As an educator at Sangmyung University in Seoul, South Korea, I am confronted daily with the challenge of providing my students, who are themselves training to be future teachers, with stimulating learning materials that will be useful and engaging. The approach that Professor Lin introduces in this book is innovative, motivational for learners, and well tested through years of practical teaching. As a non-native speaker of English himself who has lived and travelled in the United States and Western Europe, Professor Lin knows well from his own life experience the obstacles that learners face in real life situations and what is required to obtain effective, communicative competence. Consequently, this book is a product of Professor Lin''s love for his students and intense desire to help them succeed, and it was my great honor to have made a small contribution to this effort.
